What's in a Name
Almandine Wellness was named to inspire wholistic health and wellness while maintaining a strong connection to the earth and personal truth. Almandine Garnets have been used for centuries to enhance truth, faith, and to connect the Earth’s revitalizing energy with the physical body. The gemstone’s physical properties work on the emotional level to dispel depression and release panic, fear, and anxiety. From a spiritual perspective, the Almandine Garnet is used to develop a sense of security and joy within the physical plane. The gemstone ranges in color from orange-red to purplish-red and gets its name from the town of Almandine found in Asia Minor.
Considering the wholistic nature of this business, I thought it was important for me to let you all know that Garnet is my last name and my birthstone. The connections are endless!
About the Owner
As the owner and founder of Almandine Wellness I think it is important for me to share a bit of my story.
I experienced some serious health issues in my mid-twenties, which changed the course of my life. During my health scare I was in the middle of graduate school in Biology. I was focused on science, completing my degree, and making my way in the world. I had a lot on my plate and I wanted my health to "fall in line". So, I did what most of us do and went to doctors - A LOT of doctors. Eventually I was diagnosed with abnormal migraines which caused me to have multiple TIAs (Transient Ischemic Attacks). Once I was diagnosed, I was swiftly sent home where I quickly become LOST as to what I needed to do next. I didn't have the tools to manage my condition and I didn't know where to turn for help.
At the time, the western medicine approach was the only thing that I knew and I was grateful for the treatment and diagnosis (I interacted with many kind doctors and nurses). I continue to be grateful for that medical system, but I needed more. I needed more tools, more information, and more attention than the professionals could offer. That need for "more" drove me to finish my master's degree (traditional science) and discover non-traditional approaches to health and wellness. I believe I now have the best of both worlds - a balanced view. A scientific background that incorporates wholistic approaches to maintain my overall well being and support others on their own journeys. Not to mention I am doing what I love and living life on my terms.
All in all I still took a fairly traditional path. I completed my Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biology from George Mason University in Arlington, VA, USA and began my professional career as an ecosystem biologist throughout North America. After years in the corporate arena, I reignited my interest in biology and earned my Clinical Herbalist (Cl.H.) diploma from Wild Rose College in Calgary, AB, Canada.
